Sampson probably had 2 wives. First was Mary Pender (married
1810). They had 2 sons William (1811) and James (1816). He
probably had a son James (1822) by a second wife, Jane.
Sampson was a Coast guard and Customs man and spent some years in
foreign service with the Royal Navy. He is mentioned in
"Smuggling in Cornwall" by C.Noall(P.31) and "Tales of the
Cornish Smugglers" by John Vivian.(P.14) He was A Chief
