Stephen Woodcock, son of Stephen Woodcock and Sarah Ashford , was born 1812 in St Martins Scilly Islands Parish, Cornwall, England. He married Jane Cummings in February, 1839 in St.Marys. Jane Cummings was born 1813 in St.Marys.

Stephen was a mariner and his father Stephen was a farmer and
Pilot. It is likely that this Stephen is the one that was
commended for bravery during the rescue of the crew of the
ship 'Delaware'(3, 000 tons) during a gale of 20th Dec. 1871.
